Con J. Franke Electric Brings Electrical Expertise to San José Digested Sludge Dewatering Facility
Here at Con J. Franke Electric, we are again displaying our commercial electric industry expertise with our involvement in the San José Digested Sludge Dewatering Facility project. The $16 million endeavor will bring significant improvements to the wastewater treatment process, freeing up 750 acres of land for alternative uses, reducing odors in the community, and complying with organic waste regulations.
As the main commercial electrical contractor for the project, we are responsible for providing the complete electrical infrastructure. This includes power, lighting, low- and medium-voltage systems, data networks, fire alarm systems, lightning protection, and access control. Our expertise in these areas helps ensure adaptability and efficiency with project execution.
Led by Project Manager Shanon Baker and Foreman Alex Lopes, a dedicated team of six professionals, along with three subcontractors, will use their combined knowledge and collaborative approach to manage and successfully execute this complex infrastructure project.
Started in September 2022 and slated for completion in July 2025, the project involves transitioning open-air drying beds and lagoons to an enclosed mechanical dewatering process.
The overall scope encompasses significant improvements to the digested sludge transfer system, including the construction of a new electrical room, sludge transfer pump station, and site digested sludge storage. There will also be various other necessary site enhancements.
The project comprises three buildings, each serving a specific purpose.
First, there is the new two-story dewatering building featuring an IT room, electrical room, and centrifuge room. It will also house a storm drain pump station, process drain pump station, and a sanitary sewer pump station to support the dewatering process.
Second, is a truck loadout facility that will provide two loading bays, a security room, and truck scales for accurate weight measurements during the loading process.
The third building is a digested sludge handling facility to house two new digested sludge tanks and a dedicated electrical room.
We are diligently working on the initial phase of the project in adherence to the original design, and despite the complexities involved, no project scope or cost changes have impacted the project to this point.
One of the things we really enjoyed about this project is our ability to design, customize, and install various solutions tailored to the specific needs of the facility. With our commitment to excellence in developing solutions to complex electrical infrastructure needs, our team of experienced professionals ensures that the project will effectively deliver the client’s desired outcome and sets us apart from others in the commercial electrical contracting field.
The biggest challenge with this project is achieving the energy requirements necessary to operate a wastewater treatment plant. However, our strong experience in this area and our collaborative teamwork allows us to navigate and meet these demands successfully. The ability to adapt to challenges and changes in scope demonstrates our dedication to always delivering outstanding results.
Our commitment to excellence in providing comprehensive electrical solutions will be displayed throughout this water facility project that will make a positive impact on the community.
